Sail22 & Sailing Updates to Support the 2011 Melges 24 Nationals in Lake Geneva ~ Sailing Regatta Coverage

Sail22 is in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin with our Sail22 Regatta Support Trailer for the 2011 Melges 24 Nationals hosted by Lake Geneva Yacht Club on September 30th through October 2nd. The Melges 24 is one of our favorite classes to work with and we look forward to seeing everyone! We are fully stocked with our New England Ropes cordage wall, some great new Sail22 gear, go fast Melges 24 parts and more! Sail22 will be providing our Sailing Updates live regatta coverage of the event to keep those who aren't able to be in Lake Geneva updated with mark roundings and live blogging from on the water. Becky will also be photographing the Nationals and posting images on Sail22 Photography.

Just under twenty boats are already here prepping for what will be the third largest Melges 24 Nationals in the history of the class. It definitely makes sense since Lake Geneva Yacht Club is the home club of Melges Boat Works. We stopped by Zenda today to say hello and pick up a few things. Always a great place to visit!

We're also bringing our newest member of the Sail22 team with us, Dana Keller, who has joined our company to provide even better customer service and support to our clients. Stop by and meet Dana at the Sail22 Support Trailer to say hello!

Canadians Lead USA by One Race in the 2011 Canada's Cup ~ Sailing Updates Regatta Coverage

Sail22's Sailing Updates is providing live blog coverage of the 2011 Canada's Cup with short video clips of the racing uploaded from the water. After waiting for weather to pass in the morning, the teams raced two races in the afternoon, with both teams earning a victory. Vincere Leads After Three Races in 2011 Canada's Cup ~ Sailing Updates Regatta Coverage

The Canadian Team Vincere, of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, skippered by Oskar Johaneson leads the United States team from Macatawa Bay Yacht Club's Team Heritage, skippered by Bob Hughes in the first day of racing at the 2011 Canada's Cup being sailed in Holland, Michigan. Sail22's Sailing Updates is providing live blog coverage of the 2011 Canada's Cup with short video clips of the racing uploaded from the water. After day one of racing having "hurry up and wait" conditions leading to no racing, the teams headed out early with the possibility of four races on Friday. Team Heritage came out strong, winning the first race in the series, however, the Canadians quickly showed they came to put up a good fight and swept the last two races of the day. Team Heritage was able to play a left shift in the first race to lengthen the gap between the teams, but the right side of the course was where the most action was for the second and third races and Team Vincere did a great job of protecting it. The teams decided to not continue with racing after the three races and will resume the Canada's Cup 2011 Finals series on Saturday. Photo gallery by Becky Furry with racing from today is now available on Sail22 Photography and will continue to be added to throughout the event.

Team Heritage is US Defender of 2011 Canada's Cup ~ Sailing Updates Regatta Coverage

Team Heritage, of Macatawa Bay Yacht Club and skippered by Bob Hughes, prevailed today to earn the right to be the US defender in next week's Canada's Cup versus Team Vincere over the Chicago Match Race Center's Team Convexity. Sail22's Sailing Updates is providing coverage of the Canada's Cup 2011 Defender Trials racing action with blogging, video and photography. One race today rwas all Team Heritage needed to become the defender and they came from behind to win the one and only race of the day. Heritage won the first cross about ten boat lengths off of the line. When Convexity and Heritage met again half way up the beat, Convexity had a gained a solid three boat length lead. Convexity tacked for the windward mark early, which allowed Heritage to take advantage of a shift on the right. Convexity gybe set at the top mark and Heritage split and headed toward shore. Heritage's tactician, Morgan Larson, made the correct call, as when they came back to meet Convexity, they were able to gybe in front of them with a three boat length lead. Heritage continued to gain separation throughout the rest of the race, protecting the left side of the course in a tacking duel and went on to win the race with over a minute at the finish. Photos from today's racing action can be viewed in the Sail22 Photography Gallery by Becky Furry. We are looking forward to covering next week's Canada's Cup racing action on Sailing Updates with Team Heritage and Team Vincere of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club vying for the cup.

Canada's Cup Defender Trials Day 2 Report ~ Sailing Updates

A great day in Macatawa Bay today for match racing! Sail22's Sailing Updates is providing coverage of the Canada's Cup 2011 Defender Trials racing action with blogging, video and photography. Three races in variable conditions were completed with Team Heritage, skippered by Bob Hughes with tactician, Morgan Larson, winning all of the races. Racing was tight in race one with Convexity, helmed by Don Wilson with Steve Hunt calling tactics, leading until the last windward mark. Team Heritage luffed Convexity prior to the mark rounding and gained the lead. The second race started with Team Convexity gaining a penalty on Team Heritage in the initial dial-up. Team Heritage cleared themselves at the finish with less than ten seconds to spare to win the race. The final race of the day, both teams split shortly after the start, with Team Heritage taking the right side of the course and Team Convexity the left. It was clear when the boats tacked back to meet that Team Heritage had chosen the correct side and they went on to win decisively. More racing is scheduled again tomorrow. The winner of the Defender's Trials will take on Team Vincere next week in the Canada's Cup. Photos of today's racing action by Becky Furry can be found in the Sail22 Photo Gallery. Check the video below for the luffing action at the to mark. Excellent match racing maneuver!

Melges 24 Worlds 2011 & Sailing Updates

DSC_0002We arrived in Corpus Christi, Texas for the 2011 Melges 24 Worlds on Monday night with the Sail22 Support Trailer and a Melges 24. We hit the ground running and have the Sail22 Support Trailer set up and fully stocked to help any team. In order to support teams even more, our relationship with New England Ropes has grown with great new cordage in stock from now on and their logo on the Sail22 Support Trailer as a sponsor! We're ecstatic to have Ed's cousin, Bill Becker joining us full time at Sail22 to add even more support for teams. He's a great addition to Sail22!

In addition to being on site with the Sail22 Support Trailer, we will be providing live coverage of the mark roundings, finishes and blogging from the racing with Sailing Updates for the Melges 24 Worlds. If you haven't had a chance to it out yet, head over to Sailing Updates and see what it's all about. We're pretty proud of it and think GT3 Creative has done an awesome job making our ideas work! We've had some great feedback from the past events and know there will be many followers of the teams here in Corpus from all over the World. J80 Worlds and SailingUpdates.com by Sail22

We had a blast yesterday on the water updating live from the J80 Worlds with our new version of Sailing Updates. We are very grateful to our wonderful sponsors for the J80 Worlds Sailing Updates: North Sails One Design, New England Ropes, Atlantic Yacht Rigging Services, Gorilla Rigging, Swift Morris and the great support of J-Boats and the J80 Worlds 2010.

Some of my favorite photos from the day are mixed in with some of Paul Todd's from Outside Images. If you like what you see, make sure you check out the J80 Worlds 2010 Book. The full Sail22 J80 Worlds photo gallery can be found here.

J80 Worlds 2010

We are in Newport, RI through this week for theJ80 Worlds and it's looking like an awesome event! Boats have been arriving and rigging in the parking lot at Sail Newport since last week. We've been busy learning about a new class for Sail22 and meeting great people.

We are looking forward to some great racing this week with over 60 boats registered. We'll be debuting a brand new version of Sailing Updates as well this week, since we've teamed up with our favorite design team of Cary & Beth Seigler from GT3 Creative. If you ever need a website or a redesign, they are the best! Check out Sailing Updates for live regatta coverage of the J80 Worlds in a very simple and clear new way. We can't wait to share it!

Sail22 has teamed up with Hall Spars & Rigging this week to service our clients in the best way possible. We have pre-made J80 rigging onsite and the ability to have anything you may need made during the event. We also are fully stocked with all of the J80 parts you may need to prepare or in case of breakdown. Look for the Sail22 Support Trailer at Sail Newport until Monday afternoon and then over at the Newport Yachting Center.

The J80 Class is also very lucky to have Paul Todd from Outside Images in town to shoot his exceptional photographs for a 120 page (13inx11in) book he is creating on the 2010 J80 Worlds. His 6-Metre Worlds book is beautiful and we're sure this one will be too. This post has a sneak peak at a few of his photos:
